Grüezi! Buongiorno! Guten Tag! Bonjour! Hello!
I’m Isabel Mercedes, a Communications Specialist with a natural talent for languages, currently based in the idyllic town of Verscio, Ticino, Switzerland. I am passionate about design, technology, video games, metal, Goth and hardcore (punk) music, horror and sci-fi literature, and movies.
I felt captivated by the fascinating world of computer programs, user interfaces, the internet, websites, and video games as soon as I discovered personal computers. Longing to find a way to replicate what I was seeing, I started my first experiments with Photoshop and dabbled in Web Design. Relishing this activities, I realized I wanted to work in a field that would deal with technology and design, thus finding new hobbies that would accompany my passion for writing, reading, singning and listening to metal and Goth music.
To set myself on the right career path, I chose Mass Communication and New Media as a specialization during my Bachelor studies in Communication and later concluded my postgraduate studies in the same field, majoring in Technologies for Human Communication, which was quite innovative at that time. Subjects such as Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Photoshop, Information Visualization, and Usability cemented and nurtured my interests: I was most happy whenever I could focus on a project during the Interaction Design Laboratory or create visuals and websites with Photoshop and Dreamweaver, Thus, I felt even more accomplished during the more focused program of the federal diploma in Digital Graphics for the Web.
My career has brought me to explore different companies and fields, sometimes far away from design & tech. Nonetheless, trying to embrace my true interests (design, technology, psychology, research, and creativity), I completed an online UX Design bootcamp while working full time. However, since collaboration was only remote and limited to group crit and mentoring sessionsthe, the study environment did not reflect the true setting in which a UX Designer operates. Moreover, I wanted to learn more about different types of interaction, devices and user interfaces, including AR / VR / XR.
A practice-oriented postgraduate program in Interaction Design / Human-Computer Interaction will allow me to develop my skills in working within a team, as well as allow me to refresh my design skills and gather new, useful and essential knowledge, thus, fulfilling my true career goal: working in a creative field that not only combines technology with design, but also includes psychology and research, and which would allow me to improve people's lives with new solutions or by developing existing ones.
